Public Fountains Hacked into Colorful Pools in Guimarães, Portugal

                     “It is such a great idea that it seems strange we haven’t seen it done everywhere.

Public fountains were actually functional in the beginning, used to provide water for drinking, bathing or washing to city residents, but with time, although they continued to be gathering spaces, they became mostly decorative.

Participating in the contest Performance Architecture, which sought to select five urban interventions to be implemented in the city of Guimarães to celebrate its status as European Capital of Culture, Portuguese studio Like Architects and fashion designer Ricardo Dourado proposed to turn the city’s public fountains into pools.
